Issue: Three-Wheeled Electric Vehicle Has Power but Won’t Move
October 10, 2023How to Use an Electric Tricycle Charger
Electric tricycles are beloved for their eco-friendliness and energy efficiency. The performance and range of your electric tricycle’s battery are closely tied to the charger’s quality and the way you charge it. Therefore, it’s crucial to follow the correct steps for charging your electric tricycle:
- Plug in the Charger: When charging, insert the charger plug into the electric tricycle’s charging socket. The battery indicator light should illuminate. Next, connect the power plug to a 220V AC outlet. Turn on the current switch, and the power indicator light should come on with readings on the current meter.
- Adjust Charging Current: If the AC voltage stabilizes at around 220V, start with a low current for the first 1-2 hours (typically setting it at 1-2 gears). Then, adjust the current to the normal value until fully charged. For example, a 120Ah battery should be charged at around 12A. When adjusting the current, watch the readings on the current meter to avoid overcharging or undercharging.
- Charging Progress: During the charging process, the charging indicator light is on (the full indicator light is only for reference). When the battery capacity reaches about 80%, the current meter reading decreases or approaches zero. At this point, continue with a low current charge for 2-3 more hours to ensure a full charge.
- Rapid Charging: In cases where you need a quick charge, ensure that the charging current does not exceed 18A. Avoid prolonged high-current charging to prevent reducing the lifespan of both the charger and the battery.
Safety Tips for Using an Electric Tricycle Charger
- Read the Manual: Before use, thoroughly read the charger’s manual and ensure proper grounding.
- Temperature Management: During hot summer months, if the charger operates for an extended period, it can heat up significantly. After two hours of charging, unplug the battery connector and allow the fan to run for about 30 minutes to cool down the charger before resuming charging. This practice can prolong the charger and battery’s lifespan.
- Troubleshooting: If the charger malfunctions, check the plug connections and inspect the fuse for any signs of damage. Periodically clean the charging plug and socket to maintain good contact.
By adhering to these guidelines, you can efficiently and safely charge your electric tricycle, extending the life of both the charger and the battery.
